Sometimes the wellness industry is capitalizing on our discomfort, not on our health. It is healthy to feel angry. When we are hurt, sad when we are lonely, grief when we experience loss, fear, when we are threatened… The discomfort of these emotions is necessary to be fully human. There is nothing wrong with the discomfort of these emotions. Learning to move through them, understand ourselves, and connect with others, is how we know ourselves and how we create community. Decolonizing, Psychology and therapy requires us to see the breadth of emotional experience as a spectrum required for growth. To only pursue feeling happy, choosing joy, eliminates and negates an appropriate reaction, a healthy reaction, and an authentic reaction to difficult and traumatic truths that we are living in. Grief, in whatever form you experience it - trauma

Grief, in whatever form you experience it - trauma, death, loss of identity, awareness and acceptance of hard truths - it’s not just something you DO or FEEL or EXPERIENCE like a task or a list. It’s not right or wrong. Good or bad. It’s now a part of your story. Part of you. It can come in waves, rising and falling. It can come out of nowhere. It can feel like it will never abate. It can feel paralyzing. Grief is a turning point. It can be growth, change, evolution, and learning. It hurts. It clouds. It pauses. It changes us. We can be united in grief with community, family or just another. We can be in grief alone. Fearing grief can delay it, but like truth, it’s rising up in your is inevitable and if you are living you are grieving something, someone. Embracing the humanity of grief, the reality of grief, makes it yours. I’m talking a lot about grief in all it’s forms, death in many ways. It’s all around us. The actual loss of someone dying. The trauma of witnessing someone suffer. The end to a relationship or an identity. The ripping away of support, a future you thought was coming. Innocent lives ripped apart by indiscriminate bombing. There is always grief. There is always loss. Accepting this does not equate the acceptance of the circumstances around it. But accepting hard truths and being able to lay down with this new uncomfortable truth…then get back up with a new version of ourselves. What new version does your grief and loss bring create when you stand back up? Awareness? Fear? Numbness? Curiosity? Gratitude? Vigilance? Justice? Compassion? The relationship we have with the past…which is gone…it changes. It changes us. It keeps going.
